THE BAY AREA’S PREMIERE
YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Train. Compete. Grow.

At Tri‑Valley Basketball, we don’t just run drills—we build players. As a premier AAU club led by Dougherty Valley High School coaches Mike Hansen and Ken Williams—who bring over 50 years of combined experience and come from a program with multiple NCS titles and CIF State Playoff appearances—we bring elite coaching to every session.

Mike and Ken oversee all aspects of the program: coaching club teams, recruiting quality coaches, designing practice plans, and organizing competitive events. Whether your child is just learning the game or aiming for a college roster, Tri‑Valley offers a clear, structured path to success focused on positive coaching, skill development, and most importantly, ensuring every athlete enjoys the game.

Foundation, Confidence & Fun

This is where the journey begins. Our elementary-age sessions focus on introducing core basketball skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, and footwork—all in a fun, supportive, and energetic environment. Through structured games and age-appropriate drills, players build confidence, coordination, and teamwork skills that serve as the building blocks for long-term growth. Most importantly, they fall in love with the game.

Skill Development
& Game IQ

As players grow, so does the intensity and depth of their training. In our middle school program, we introduce advanced fundamentals, offensive and defensive concepts, and real game scenarios. Players begin to understand spacing, court awareness, and decision-making. These sessions prepare athletes for the next level—whether it’s making their school team or standing out in competitive leagues. It’s also a critical age where mentorship and mental toughness are key, and our coaching team provides both.

Elite Prep, Exposure
& Results

For high school and post-grad players, we deliver serious next-level training. Our sessions focus on college-level skill development, position-specific work, strength and conditioning, and leadership on and off the court. We coach players on how to perform in high-pressure situations and prepare them for the recruiting process. Several athletes who’ve trained with Tri-Valley have gone on to earn college scholarships and roster spots on NCAA teams, a testament to our high-performance system and coaching pedigree.

We believe great coaching is about more than just skills—it’s about mentorship, mindset, and building character. Our coaches are hands-on, supportive, and fully committed to helping every athlete grow on and off the court.

  • Ken Williams, Director & Head Coach

Coach Williams brings over 30 years of coaching experience, with more than 20 of those years in high school athletics. His journey with the game began in his youth, and he continued playing organized basketball at a high level well into adulthood.

For the past 12 years, Coach Williams has served on the varsity coaching staff at Dougherty Valley High School, where the program has won over 200 games, captured multiple league championships, and claimed several North Coast Section (NCS) titles during his tenure.

Over the course of his coaching career, he has led teams to:

    Multiple league titles

    League tournament championships

    Sectional championships

    State tournament appearances

It has been Coach Williams’ privilege and honor to coach dozens of athletes who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.

Mike Hansen, Director & Head Coach

Mike Hansen is the highly accomplished head basketball coach for the Dougherty Valley High School Wildcats in San Ramon, California. He has been instrumental in building the program since the school opened in 2007, and is the only men's basketball coach the school has ever known.

Hansen boasts a wealth of coaching experience, including stints at Ygnacio Valley High School, California State University East Bay, Chabot Junior College, and even internationally in China, where he coached the Jilin Northeast Tigers. This diverse background has provided him with a strong foundation in fundamental basketball teaching.

Under Coach Hansen's leadership, Dougherty Valley has achieved significant success, including their first-ever CIF North Coast Section Open Division title. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was named the 2023 Cal-Hi Sports State Coach of the Year and the 2024 Bay Area boys' basketball Coach of the Year. He is known for establishing a strong championship culture and fostering a selfless, resilient team environment.

Coaching runs in the family for Mike Hansen, as his father, Tom Hansen, was also a long-time basketball coach at Foothill High in Pleasanton, where Mike himself played point guard. Mike attributes much of his coaching philosophy to his parents, emphasizing hard work, self-belief, surrounding oneself with great people, and teaching the details of the game.
